Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Thermal agitation is a critical issue for high-density magnetic recording. In this brief report, I present an analytical method to estimate the magnetic anisotropy energy necessary for overcoming bit instability. Moreover, we propose a simple method to evaluate the first and second magnetic anisotropy constants of polycrystalline recording media with their easy axis in the film plane. The present method has been applied to (11・0) oriented CoCrPtTa hard disk media. The measured anisotropy constants are presented along with their temperature dependence.
