Time domain measurement of disk eccentricity and its application for PLL phase accuracy improvement

Abstract(in English) Phase accuracy of Phase Locked Loop for Pre-Embossed Rigid Magnetic disk has been dramatically improved and demonstrated. Eccentricity caused by clamping preformed-track disk to spindle axis is measured and memorized by built-in-drive circuit.PLL phase error caused by eccentricity is compensated by feed-forward control for the VCO,and residual phase error is suppressed by conventional closed loop.This method employs only 40MHz-3-bit counter as measurment section,and less than 1 K Byte table for feed forward control.Achieved measurement resolution and residual phase error are 1.2 ns and less than 5 ns(pp),respectively.
