Output Characteristics of UHF Carrier Type Head using Impedance Matching Circuit

Abstract(in English) A new type of thin-film head, which employs a permeability change at UHF, was investigated for its output characteristics for application to high density magnetic recording. As the track becomes narrower, the output decreases because of the lower head-impedance. To overcome this problem, impedance matching was selected as the optimum technique for connecting the head with other circuits. Output voltage of 20.5mV_ / μm and 127mV_ / μm were achieved for 50Ω and 1 kΩ matched heads. These values are much higher than those for conventional heads. Also, 3dB-bandwidth of > 100 MHz was calculated for both heads. These results reveal that this head has the potential for high density reproducing.
