Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recent technologies concerned with magnetic head sliders, which are the most important mechanical element of hard disk drives, are described. Flying head sliders have been developed to realize fly height equalization in the range from inner to outer disk diameter through new air bearing designs. Contact recording heads have been studied by using silicon micro beam heads to evaluate head vibration under sliding and wear characteristics. The wear rate of SiO2 film was less than that of pure silicon.
