Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For the purpose of assisting for the blind to cross a crosswalk alone in safety, this paper presents a method with image information for estimating the length of a crosswalk under the assumption that the blind is in front of the crosswalk. First, we obtain three-dimensional vectors of a crosswalk outline under the perspective projection. Then, we have the direction of the road surface normal on the basis of vector analysis, and estimate the distance between the blind and an endline of a crosswalk. This paper furthermore presents a method for extracting the region of a crosswalk as a pre-processing of region detection. Extensive experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed method for real images of crosswalks.
