Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Changes in pose and illumination drastically affect the appearance of a face, creating serious difficulties for identification. The authors have proposed the Geodesic Illumination Basis method, which can compensate for any illumination effects under the assumption where the pose is accurately estimated beforehand. However, its performance was degraded because of the pose estimation error. In this report, we propose an automatic pose optimization method that starts with the initial estimate obtained by the previous feature-based method. In the experiments, our method achieved almost the same performance as when the accurate pose is known beforehand.
