Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a method of event recognition which integrates information from multiple sources(e.g., gesture and speech recognition from distributed sensors in the real world). The proposed system consists of multiple recognizers named Continuous State Machines(CSMs), where each CSM can classify time-varying patterns from a single source. Each CSM has a state transition rule which is deduced from tradeoff scheme between input and model's prediction and supports dynamic time warping, temporal segmentation of patterns, and robustness against noise. Then, we introduce an interaction method among CSMs to classify events from multiple sources. A continuous state space(i.e., vector space) enables us to design interaction as recursive minimization of an energy function. Moreover, the interaction enables the dynamic focusing over the multiple sources and improves reliability and accuracy of classifying events in the dynamically changing situations(e.g., the object is occluded temporally for one of the multiple cameras in a gesture recognition task). Experiments of gesture recognition by two cameras show the effectiveness of our proposed idea.
