Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) There are enormously many images on WWW (World Wide Web), from which we can retrieve images by image search engines. However, since most of them employ only text retrieval techniques, the accuracy of their retrieval is not always satisfactory. By combining a text retrieval technique with a content-based image retrieval technique, we design a new image-gathering system with higher accuracy. This system is implemented on a PC cluster system, which gathers in parallel a large number of images within a relatively short time dynamically. As an input to the system, only key words that express images are given. No prior-storing of a large amount of data is needed. In this paper, we describe our system in detail and demonstrate by experiments the high performance of our system.
