Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We report on a system for reconstruction of 3-D space points based on rotational imaging. A single camera that can be rotated 360° around a vertical space axis and approx. 270° around a horizontal space axis (i.e. is omnidirectional) reconstructs 3-D space points by acquiring basically two images, extracting feature points, and then computing the 3-D space coordinates. Using a specially designed control algorithm, the system carries out optimal rotations for obtaining low-error reconstruction. We describe the characteristics of the system based on simulations and experiments with a prototype show that this system has low matching error, can cope with occlusion and periodic image structure. The system is adequate for reconstrucion of static scenes.
