Abstract(in English) | It is about half a century since printed character recognition was put into use. The ability of the recognition, however, is far below that of human beings. On the other hand, many European people can't read Kanji characters. In this context, mail sorters used in Japan, which can read handwritten kanji address, can be said to have more intelligence than human beings. So, the researchers should not be too humble for their achievement. In this paper the author will explain what has been done in the 20th century and what can be done in the 21st century. |
