Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The efficiency of the pattern spectrum analysis method for texture classification is investigated in this paper. The pattern spectrum is a mathematical morphological method to describe the size distribution of objects in an image. We have proposed a method to extract the shape of an elementary particle of textures by optimizing the structuring element to reduce the variance of pattern spectrum that is calculated using this structuring element. In this paper we showed the texture discrimination efficiency of our method by comparing the distances between structuring elements extracted from similar as well as distinctive pairs of textures. Other evaluation functions than reducing the variance of pattern spectrum are also compared.
