Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is hard to recognize a face using a fundamental pattern recognition method because facial appearance is variously changed by facial expression and facial pose. In this paper, we propose a system which automatically performs face and facial feature points detection and identification for facial images scaled variously. A face is represented as a graph where the nodes are placed at facial feature points. The basic concept of matching is random diffusion process in the image by employing the locally competitive and globally corporative mechanism. This process works nicely in the situations where the scale of each face used for matching is almost the same. We extended this process to deal with the difference of each scale by probabilistic elasticity of a facial graph.
