Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is very difficult for the blind to detect the up or down steps on the road. This paper presents a method for detecting the position and direction of the stairs by using the image sensors. We extract the edge of stairs in an input image. The lines of pillars or steps are extracted with the edge information and Hough transformation. Calculating vanishing point and derectinal vector of the stairs and, we estimate the distance from the blind to the nearest point of the stairs based on projective geometry and vector analysis.
