3-D Information Input System Based on Hand Motion Recognition by Image Sequence processing

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a three dimensional information input system based on hand motion recognition by image sequence processing without using devices on hands like 3-D position sensors or hand motion capturing devices. In this system, two cameras, front-view camera and over-view camera, are used. The method recognizes hand shape by processing the image from the front-view camera, and detects the distance between the display and the hand by processing the image from the over-view camera. The hand motion is recognized by analyzing the time series pattern of the acquired hand shape information. We evaluated the precision of our method through the experiments, and confirmed its effectiveness by developing an application program for 3-D object manipulation based on our system.
