Road Monitoring System using Fusion of Visible and Infrared Camera Image

Abstract(in English) In ITS(Intelligent Transportation System) which aims at smoothness and safety of traffic, rapid detection of accident, stopping vehicle and other obstacles on road is of great importance. In this paper, we developed a road monitoring system using the background-subtraction-image fusion of visible and infrared camera installed on roadside. The system is able to perform stable detection of obstacles on road in both daytime and nighttime based on the silhouette extracted from the fusion of background-subtraction-image. In 40 hours evaluation of real scene, compared with single visible camera system, the obstacle detection rate of our system has been improved by 12%.
