Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The skeleton and the skeleton function of an object are useful to describe its shape. They have enough information to synthesize the original shape of the object. The description and the recognition of irregularly shaped objects are one of the important and difficult subjects in the area of computer visin. This paper presents a vector quantization method of the skeleton and the skeleton function, by which the understanding and the data compression of irregularly shaped objects can be realized. Experiments to show the effectiveness of the proposed method are also shown.
