Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, a binarization method for low-resolution document images is proposed. In general, batter, blur and jaggedness degrade binarization result when resolution of an input image is insufficient. The proposed method uses topographic features of intensity surface of an input image to detect thin lines and narrow gaps. By detecting those minute structures, blur and batter in binarization result are prevented. In addition, interpolation, which precedes the binarization process, is used to reduce jaggedness.
