Abstract(in English) | We have developed an address block extraction method. The characteristic of this method is based on the multiple hypothesis technique. The multiple hypothesis technique is explained as follows. When an unknown data is inputted, some hypotheses are set up, and the inputted data is processed by using each hypothesis and some candidates are created, and then a correct result is selected from many candidates. This extraction method applying the multiple hypothesis technique can robustly extract a correct address block area from a mail image with any format. The hierarchical data structure is adopted to store some candidates created by the multiple hypothesis technique and to make good use of them. The correct ratio of this extraction method is 94% in the printed mail, and 89% in the hand-written mail. |
