Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a fast and robust method for panoramic image mosaicing from a video sequence. The method concats each frame of an image sequence to an overall panoramic image based on global affine motion parameters between successive frames. In order to achieve fast global motion estimation, the proposed method firstly selects very small portions of pixels(only 2-3%), on which generates pseudo motion vectors by spatio-temporal gradient. Secondly, the method verifies the generated motion vectors by pixel-wise matching. Thirdly it estimates the motion parameters from the verified motion vectors. The method iterates these three-step estimation until a measure of error reaches below a threshold or a fixed number of iteration has been completed. We implement the method on a PC and apply it to real image sequences. As a result, it proves to be effective and be able to achieve real-time computation.
