Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Using the optimal marker patterns proposed in our previous report, we design an optimal grid pattern and study the method for identifying the position in the original pattern from an image of a small portion of it. We derive a decision criterion based on maxmum likelihood estimation(Mahalanobis distance minimization)by analyzing the statistical behavior of the adjacency ratios. In order to improve the performance, we incorporate the aspect ratio by analyzing the covariance between the adjacency ratios and the aspect ratios. We further add colour information and do simulated and real-image experiments. We automatically extract a grid structure from a real image and estimate the noise magnitude by optimally imposing the orthgonality constraint and applying the statistical optimization theory. Using the bootstrap procedure, we show that our method exhibits high reliability.
