Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For the verification of signature image written on a traveler's check, a background removal method with the least loss of signature information is required as pre-processing of an input image. As traveler's checks have complex and colorful patterns, it is expected that a background image is effectively removed by use of color information. In the present paper, RGB-color data of each pixel in an input image are transformed to a vector in the eigen space derived from RGB distribution by using of PCA, and then vectors have the component below (or above) a threshold vaule are removed as a background points. An experiment to evaluate the effectiveness of this method is done using 4 different types of traveler's checks, and it shows a good result.
