Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A method for extracting strokes of handwritten Chinese characters using dynamic matching is proposed. Our goal is to determine whether a character belongs to a predicted category or not on the basis of the extracted strokes. In this study, a set of feature points of a model character is matched to that of a given character. This is carried out by the dynamic matching of a set of feature points to another set of feature points in such a way that the relative positions of feature points of the first set are maintained as much as possible. A stroke is estimated by connecting matched feature points, and the appropriateness of the stroke for a certain category is checked by of the model character: the parallelness of some strokes, the straightness of some strokes, and whether a stroke is extended from another stroke or not. In this approach, it is possible to identify a given chgaracter as belonging to a predicted category with sufficiently high confidence, although the method dose not always work.
