Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We point out that matrix factorization does not play an essential role in reconstructing 3-D from a sequence of images by the factorization method of Tomasi and Kanade. We describe an alternative procedure that does not involve matrix factorization, revealing that the essence of the method is "averaging" the entire data to disperse the noise, which is independent of whether the projection is orthographic or perspective. We show that in this new light the factorization method can be extended to perspective projection straightforwardly.
