Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Many image processing techniques that are used for correcting traffic flow data for road traffics information systems have been studies for years, and are still being studied today. Some sensors for measuring traffic volume or mean speed of traffic flow have already been put to practical use in the field. We proposed a method and system which can measure the end of the traffic congestion using an image processing technology, and conducted that experiement. Our system's objective is to detect the end of traffic flow rapidly by measuring the density of the traffic flow or speed of groups of cars that were spotted by image processing method from a relatively long-distance section. We did the experiment at a toll gate on a highway where congestion often arise in order to check out whether our proposed algorithm can detect the end of congestion.
