A Note on the Nonlinear Normalization for Gabor Features

Abstract(in English) A nonlinear normalization method for handprinted Chinese character recognition has been proposed by Horiuchi et al. However, the effectiveness of the Horiuchi et al.'s method in handwritten numeral recognition is not shown. In this paper, we improve the Horiuchi et al.'s method for Gabor filter-based handwritten numeral recognition. It is shown that the proposed method yields a good classification performance, compared with the Horiuchi et al.'s method.
