Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Fractal image coding have received great attention in digital image compression. The original image is partitioned into a number of blocks and is coded by obtaining the information of the contractive transformations for the blocks. Fixed-size partitioning, quad-tree partitioning, and HV partitioning are partitioning schemes based on rectangles. In this paper, we propose an alternating binary-tree partitioning (ABP) for a special-purpose hardware for fractal image coding. First, the original image is partitioned into rectangular blocks. We repeat the partitioning rectangular blocks into square blocks and square blocks into rectangular blocks. Our experiments with ABP shows the increase of roughly 1 dB in PSNR which is better performances than quad-tree partitioning.
