Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Among the practical use of OCR, there are some cases when an inappropriate threshold of binarization mainly keeps the recognition rate lower. Although these occured according to various and complicated causes, two extremes are 1) the lack of detail information about images to be read at a binarization stage 2) an insufficient character recognition for poor images. Accordingly we assume that a more appropriate image could be obtained at a binarization stage if the character to be read is known. In this paper we propose a method in which an appropriate threshold is selected at the character recognition stage for each reference pattern in the dictionary with both discriminative features and binarizing features. In particular we examine about binarizing features for the character recognition stage through some experiments.
