Tracking of a Walking Person in Image Sequences by Stepwise Model Matching and Its Application to Image Synthesis

Abstract(in English) Recently, image synthesis for existing films and videos is required. In this report, we propose a method of substituting a walker in image sequences with another walker. The method is based upon extracting and tracking the regions of a walker in image sequences. The regions of the walker are extracted from the differential image sequence between the original image sequences and a background image. Tracking of a walker is based on 3D model matching. Human body model, which is an articulated object, consists of solid parts with articular angles as parameters. We reduce the cost of getting model parameters by using stepwise model matching. Image synthesis can be achieved by replacing the extracted human regions with another person (or CG model); that is, another human image with obtained motion parameters is superimposed on the background image.
