Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In automatic document recognition systems, the page segmentation is required by which the document image is split to text block region, picture region, etc. In the methods which use the rules of global information on page segmentation, the objective documents are limited, because such global rules depend on individual documents. Especially, for documents which contain non-rectangular regions, it is often difficult to segment the document images. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed that uses only general rules. The algorithm exploit such an information that each text block contains the text lines of similar shape and they placed with regular inter-line spacing. The advantage of the algorithm is that the text blocks of any shape will extracted by comparatively simple procedure.
