Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose here a structural pattern recognition approach for flexible recognition of 2-dimensional binary shapes. Our goals is to recognize correctly almost any instance of a class of objects. For instance, we would like to identify almost any image of a pair of scissors as a pair of scissors. For this purpose our system performs the following steps: (1) decompose the input binary shape into primitive elements, (2) construct meaningful parts from those elements, (3) compose a description of the relations among the parts in a graph, and (4) compose and match the graph with the model description of various classes of objects. Experiments show the approach is prospective.
