| Abstract(in English) | Our technical committee on "Pattern Recognition and Understanding (PRU)" has changed its name to "Pattern Recognition and Media Understanding(PRMU)" beginning this fiscal year. This report outlines the 24-year history of our committee and the circumstances under which the name was changed from "Pattern Recognition and Learning(PRL)" to PRU in 1986. In the past ten years, pattern recognition research has dramatically progressed and extended its reach and now addresses issues involved in multimedia information processing. Under these circumstances we propose to change the name of our committee to "Pattern Recognition and Media Understanding". Recent activities on "organized sessions on special topics" and those arranged for young researchers are also introduced. |
