Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report presents a method of page segmentation for pages with non-Manhattan layout and skews. The characteristics of the proposed method are as follows: (1)The approximated area Voronoi diagram enables us to obtain the candidates of boundaries of document components as a set of line segments, (2)Without the use of domain specific parameters, inter-character, inter-line and inter-column gaps are estimated from the line segments so as to select the boundaries. From the experimental results for 80 images with non-Manhattan layout and the skews of 0°-45°, we have confirmed that the method is effective for extraction of body text regions and as efficient as other methods based on connected component analysis.
