Abstract(in English) | This paper describes the state of the art and the further step of Optical Character Readers (OCRs) from the point of view of an industrial researcher. OCRs have come to the level of reading not only specialized OCR forms, but, some general-purpose account forms. However, most of OCRs are only used as special data input in company. To enlarge OCRs market and research, we should aim at personal OCRs following the advance of the high-speed of PC and many kinds of personal scanners, and "Intenetioanal Character Recognition" is needed for any kinds of documents. To realize it as practical use, the research for requirement, the study for continuous results and increase of OCR applications are discussed. Especeally, adaptive character recognition using circumstantial knowledge is proposed. |
