Extraction and Position Estimation of Principal Characteristics in Scenic Images

Abstract(in English) Extraction and position estimation of principal characteristics in scenic images was investigated. Those characteristics occupy large area in the image. At the extraction stage, whole image is divided into many small regions. Then neighboring regions are combined into one region, if the colors of them meet the conditions of combining regions. Finally a small number of large regions remain as principal characteristics. Munsell color order system is used besides the normal RGB format. For the extracted characteristics, the positions of them are estimated. Between artificial objects and natural objects, the composition of edge is different. Kind of the object and its position can be estimated by considering that difference.
