Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Understanding of vehicle driving environments is necessary to secure safe and smooth transport facilities. The road condition is one of the most important factors toward understanding of vehicle driving environments. A new algorithm for discrimination of the road condition has been described in this paper. This algorithm employs a multivariate analysis to discriminate the road condition based on temperature as well as features extracted from the road image. We conducted field tests to verify the accuracy of this algorithm and obtained favorable results.
