Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Information sharing services using a satellite, such as CS digital broadcasting and high-speed satellite Internet delivery are rapidly growing. NTT has developed an asymmetrical multimedia satellite communications system, combining high-speed satellite circuits and low-speed terrestrial circuits. Commercial service started in September 1998 under the name MegaWave-Pro. Based on this system, we investigated low-speed satellite circuits for the return link for reliable multicasting or international satellite intranet services, and have developed a two-way multimedia satellite communications system. This paper describes the developed system and introduces the service begun in September 2000 for educational networks among schools.
