VSF-OFCDM Using Two-Dimensional Spreading and Its Performance

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes spreading factor control in the frequency and time domains for VSF-OFCDM (Variable Spreading Factor-Orthogonal Frequency and Code Division Multiplexing) that employs two-dimensional spreading to maximize the radio link capacity based on cell configuration, radio link parameters (modulation and coding schemes, spreading factor, and number of code-multiplexing), and radio link conditions (delay spread and Doppler frequency). Furthermore, we propose an orthogonal spreading code assignment method appropriate for two-dimensional spreading, and the simulation results demonstrate the performance of VSF-OFCDM that employs two-dimensional spreading. The simulation results show that when we employ QPSK data modulation with the channel coding rate R = 3/4 of turbo coding, VSF-OFCDM using only frequency domain spreading (spreading factor SF = 16 and 32) achieves the best performance to maintain the lowest required average received E_s/N_0(signal energy per symbol-to-background noise spectrum density ratio). Meanwhile, in the case of 16QAM data modulation with R = 1/2 turbo coding, if the number of multiplexed codes is more than 1/2 of SF (SF = 16 and 32), VSF-OFCDM using two-dimensional spreading achieves the better performance compared with that using only frequency domain spreading. (Required average packet error rate 10^<-2>, 12-path exponential decayed Rayleigh fading channel, delay spread = 0.34 ,μsec)
