Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In PRMA, a voice terminal can reserve an available slot and if the reservation succeeds, this slot will be used in subsequent frames until the end of the talkspurt. On the other hand, a data terminal has to contend for a slot for each packet transmission. However, in the unreserved slot, packets from both voice and data terminals contend for the channel. Therefore the PRMA protocol cannot operate in high load condition. In this study, we propose a new reservation random access protocol for multimedia wireless networks where the data throughput can be improved without degradation of voice quality. In the proposed system, a voice packet does not contend with a data packet and takes over the slot which is previously assigned to a data packet. We evaluate the voice packet dropping probability and throughput through computer simulation. It is shown that the proposed system has better voice quality and data throughput than the conventional PRMA system.
