Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In recent years, many countries start focusing on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). ITS requires vehicles to transmit messages among one another, generally referred to as Inter-Vehicle Communication (IVC). Communication among vehicles should not require infrastructure in IVC. Ad hoc networking is one such technology. In general, behavior of nodes (vehicles) in IVC is highly directional. Generic ad hoc network solutions do not take this characteristic into consideration. If they are applied directly to IVC, performance can degrade quickly as the system scales, particularly for broadcasting type communications. In this paper, we propose two protocols (with the help of GPS) that reduce the bandwidth consumption for broadcasting type communications by taking advantage vehicles' behavior. We carried out performance comparisons between generic ad hoc broadcasting protocol and our protocols. Results showed that it was possible to improve performance by several folds in terms of bandwidth utilization.
