Abstract(in English) It is well-known that man-made noise emitted from ISM apparatus is one of the major causes of errors in ISM-band wireless local area network (LAN) systems. In general, man-made noise is not always emitted from ISM apparatus and the emission level of man-made noise is considered to vary with time. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of ISM-band wireless LAN system, the noise emission level is adaptively estimated by the wireless communication system. Carrier to noise power ratio (CNR) is the most basic parameter characterizing man-made noise and it will be widely applied to several countermeasures against man-made noise. In this paper, we discuss the CNR estimation in ISM-band wireless LAN under man-made noise environment and evaluate the bit error rate performance using sector antenna with the CNR estimation.
