Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the leased Circuit service, which is used by enterprises and ISPs (Internet Service Providers), the bandwidth is fixed. However, the traffic changes dynamically. Therefore, there is strong demand to allocate the bandwidth dynamically. This paper shows the auction method to do it. Auction is one method to allocate resources fairly and efficiently. By using this method, enterprises and ISPs can secure resources as the need changes. Moreover, the network can be used efficiently. In this method, enterprises and ISPs make a bid for bandwidth of the backbone network. Each bid price is decided on the basis of the need to get bandwidth. There are several auction schemes. In this paper, it is described how a network operator can allocate the bandwidth dynamically by using an English auction approach. Then, this method is analyzed from various viewpoints, such as user satisfaction, ISPs' benefit, network operators' benefit, etc.
