Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Burst transmission is necessary for a lossless handover scheme under which the downlink constant bit rate (CBR) asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) cells are stored in the buffer memory in the switch during handover and then flushed into the terminals there after. We propose a bandwidth assignment method for this handover scheme. The ATM switches divide the total bandwidth of the downlink into a normal and an extra bandwidth. While only the normal bandwidth is used for normal transmission, both normal and extra bandwidths are used for the burst transmission. Computer simulations were carried out to evaluate the probabilities of connection failure, handover failure, and forced termination due to the unavailability of downlink resources employing the conventional and proposed bandwidth assignment methods.
