Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently demands on transmitting compressed still images or video images over wireless channels have been increasing rapidly according to the explosive developments of portable computers and new communication tools such as World Wide Web browsers. One of the significant problems on wireless transmission of compressed images is the synchronization loss due to errors in the received signal. Most of image compression algorithms utilize variable length codes (VLCs) to compress images. If there is an error in the received signal, the decoder for the VLC loses the synchronization of codewords and produces burst errors. In this paper, to solve the synchronization problem,source-channel coding (SCC) is employed for the transmission of compressed video images with multicode CDM. Especially, the SCC is applied to the AC coefficients and its performance over fading channel is investigated.
