Abstract(in English) Demands for broadband mob1ile communication systems has been increasing recently. Adoption of narrow beam antennas at base stations is effective for high speed transmission to realize such broadband services. In order to maximize received signal powers, the antenna beam width should be optimized from the viewpoint of the angular spread. The conventional definition of angular spread is useful for an antenna having broad horizontal beam pattern. However, it does not provide usefu1 information when designing antennas having narrow beam. In this study, a new mode1 of angular spread is proposed for designing of narrow beam antennas, and its effectiveness is verified though field experiments.
