Experiments on Adaptive Transmit Power Control with Outer Loop for W-CDMA Using Concatenated Channel Coding

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we present an outer loop transmit power control(TPC) method for high bit rate data transmission using concatenated channel coding in W-CDMA mobile radio, and investigate the performance by laboratory experiments. In this outer loop TPC, the target SIR is controlled by keeping the frame error rate(FER_)after inner decoding constant to achieve constant received quality after outer decoding irrespective of the channel conditions. From the experimental results using hardware fading simulator, it is clarified that FER_ after outer decoding can be controlled to be almost constant from slow to fast fading up to 480 Hz, and BER_ after outer decoding can also be controlled to be within the fluctuation of one-digit(in this case, the target SIR is controlled within the range of 4.5 dB). Moreover, it is also shown that the target SIR can be minimized when the step size of inner loop and outer loop are Δ_=+/-1.0 dB and Δ_=+/-0.5 dB, respectively, and as a result, that multiple access interference(MAI) can be minimized.
