Abstract(in English) This paper proposes an adaptive list-output Viterbi equalizer (LVE) with simplified compareselect operation, in order to achieve a good trade-off between bit error rate (BER) performance and complexity in the presence of wide-spread intersymbol interference. The LVE, which keeps several survivors for each state under state-reduction, has good BER performance. However, the LVE suffers from large processing delay due to its sorting-based compare-select operation. The proposed adaptive LVE employs simplified compare-select operation based on simplification of a sorting algorithm and non-linear metric-conversion. Therefore, the proposed adaptive LVE can suppress its processing delay. Computer simulation shows that the proposed adaptive LVE causes slight BER performance degradation due to the above mentioned simplification on frequency selective fading channels.
