Characteristics of Radio-Wave Propagation in Medium-Scale Building

Abstract(in English) Grasping characteristics of radio wave propagation plays an important role in designing the wireless communication systems such as digital cordless telephone,local area network systems.In this paper,radio propagation and fading characteristics of the radio channel in the medium scale building were investigated at 2. 5GHz band which is one of candidates in future mobile communication system.In order to predict the propagation loss,four major modes of propagation were considered:(1) low-loss in Line-Of- Sight (LOS) wave,(2) corridor guided wave,(3) direct transmission wave through obstacles and (4) the reentered wave.Based on the measured results of attenuation characteristics,the macroscopic parameters for the above mentioned modes of wave propagation were determined.Using these parameters,signal strengths could be predicted with average standard deviation of 4.5dB.The fading characteristics were studied by measuring the Rician parameter and the correlation coefficient for 2-branch diversity separated antenna by 50cm.The Rician parameters were 2 in case of the LOS propagation,and 1 in case of the no LOS propagation.The two branch correlation coefficients were less than 0.5 within coverage of 80%^ ~90% in almost all the locations.
