Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In land mobile communication systems, frequency selective fading causes signal distortion, which disturbs high-speed digital transmission. At present, adaptive equalizers are considered as a countermeasure technique to the frequency selective fading. However, faster signal variation will occur when higher frequency bands are applied to the future mobile communications, and this may require more complicated and advanced techniques. In this paper, we propose a microcellular system which permits high speed transmission without using complicated fading reduction techniques. This proposal reduces multipath signals by using directional antennas at both base and mobile stations in the microcellular system with a low height base station antenna. This reduction of multipath signals is certified in a field experiment conducted in an area of central Tokyo.
