Spot-size Converter Integrated LD for Wireless Access Systems with Subcarrier Optical Transmission

Abstract(in English) Recently, Wireless access systems using subcarrier optical transmission have been reported. This system has possibility of realizing smaller and cheaper base stations (BS) and has flexibility of system development. However, the expensiveness of optical devices such as laser diode (LD) have prevented from realizing smaller and cheaper BSs. This paper describes an application of spot-size converter integrated LD (SS-LD) for wireless access systems using subcarrier optical transmission, which is expected to realize cheaper LD. For applying SS-LD, the desirable noise and intermodulation distortion (IM3) characteristics are obtained for wireless access system by technique of reducing the reflection noise effect caused by optical fiber.
