Abstract(in English) | This paper discusses channel estimation based on time-multiplexed pilot symbols on a multi-path fading, isotropic scattering radio channel. The Mean Square Error (MSE) of the channel estimate is evaluated analytically for the two methods linear interpolation and averaging. The MSE of the two methods is shown for different fading rates, pilot symbol insertion intervals and signal to noise ratios. It is noted that with the E_b/N_o values assumed for direct-sequence CDMA cellular systems, the averaging method would yield better performance than the interpolation method for fading rates up to around f_DT_P=0.16 This is especially true for wide-band systems, where there normally are several resolvable channel paths, and thus a lower E_b/N_o per channel path. |
